Discover Fun, Friendship, and Learning at Miller Park Adult Center!

The Miller Park Adult Center is a warm and inviting space where older adults (55+) can come together, make new friends, and participate in a wide array of engaging activities and recreational opportunities. Whether you’re looking to learn a new game, tackle a challenging puzzle, dive into a good book, or engage in some friendly competition, we’ve got you covered. Nestled on the main floor of the Miller Park Pavilion, adjacent to the paddle boats in scenic Miller Park, we are open on Tuesdays from 9am – 12pm and Wednesdays – Fridays 9am – 2:30pm.

Nicole Culbertson, the passionate Program Manager for Older Adults at Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department, explains, “Our mission is to provide a vibrant hub for seniors, offering them diverse opportunities to socialize, learn, and grow. We’re all about fostering a sense of community and camaraderie.”

With a variety of activities and recreational opportunities, there’s something for everyone at the Center. Engage in friendly conversations over a game, challenge your mind with puzzles, or delve into the captivating world of books from Bloomington Public Library’s book program. “We’re thrilled to collaborate with the public library to offer seniors an extensive selection of reading materials, and they even get to keep some from our stash without having to worry about returns,” shares Culbertson.

The heartwarming aspect of the Miller Park Adult Center is that all its programs are free, making them accessible to all. However, some specialized events may require pre-registration and a small fee.

For those who may be uncertain about taking the first step, Culbertson encourages them to come forth and embrace the fellowship. “Our building supervisors are there to provide a warm welcome and all the information needed. We hand seniors a calendar of events and introduce them to groups, making sure they feel right at home,” she assures.

Additionally, the center extends its assistance beyond the realm of recreation, with staff available during open hours to help with electronic devices. From smartphones to Kindles, seniors can seek guidance on anything they need. Culbertson states, “In this digital age, we want our seniors to feel empowered and confident in navigating the tech world. Our staff is more than happy to lend a helping hand.”

So, whether it’s playing games, enjoying a good book, or simply cherishing moments with friends, the Miller Park Adult Center is the place to be. “Come join us,” Culbertson beams, “and experience a community that will embrace you with open arms. You are always welcome here.”
