“Tenants furnish their apartments however they wish,” says Sandra Sutton, Pekin Estates Manager. “They make it their own, just like home.”
Seniors enjoy spacious apartments with modern kitchens, plush wall-to-wall carpeting, large closets, individual heating and cooling units, and large bathrooms with safety features. “People are always impressed with how large our apartments are.” says Sandra Sutton, Pekin Estates Manager. “They love our kitchens with the full size fridge, stove, and lots of cabinets for storage.”
Estates tenants have the luxury of weekly housekeeping, maintenance, and two buffet meals daily. These wonderful services allow tenants to live independently without all the struggles of day to day chores. “I feel like I’m living on my own, but I don’t have the chores of fixing meals, changing beds, or cleaning” says Ed Psinas, Pekin Estates tenant.
Never a Dull Moment
With their choice of social, recreational, and educational events, tenants have plenty to do. “It’s an active lifestyle at Liberty Village,” says Sandra. “We take our tenants to get ice cream, out to lunch, shopping, and to the movies on scheduled bus trips and are looking forward to the opportunity to explore these options again this year. Our seniors are very busy!”
During the week, tenants have opportunities to participate in exercise classes or play a game of pinochle, bingo, Yahtzee, or Skip-Bo. Tenants also enjoy fellowship with friends, attending chapel, and celebrating birthdays.
“Some of our Pekin tenants’ favorite activities include participating in a game of bridge at the Miller Center and listening to the Central Illinois Banjo Club presented on Liberty Stage outside in our courtyard,” says Sandra. Tenants can be pampered in the beauty and barbershop, or spend an afternoon learning new things in the library. As Spring approaches, residents can also enjoy the beautiful outdoor scenery, fountains, and flowers during a stroll around the charming courtyard just outside The Estates’ doors.
Pekin Estates offers community events in which residents can participate. “We’re involved with the Miller Center every year. Giving back is really important,” says Sandra. “Liberty Village tenants also have access to the Methodist Wellmobile monthly. They can receive free blood pressure, blood glucose, and cholesterol checks.
Tenants at Pekin Estates can participate in The Today Show; an opportunity for tenants to listen to speakers on all different subjects. “Everyone has a different story to tell,” says Sandra. “Some people have been through wars and the Great Depression. It’s educational, and our tenants love it. There’s never a shortage of things to do when you’re here!”
Rehab, Recover, Return Home
Liberty Village assists tenants with “staying on track to good health” with free access to A.J.’s Fitness Center. The A.J.’s Fitness program is designed to focus on four pillars; flexibility, strength training, balance, and endurance. The program uses The Smart Card, which adjusts the strength training equipment to each tenant’s needs. “At Liberty Village, we recognize the importance physical activity plays with helping our tenants stay active and independent and keep doing the things they enjoy as they age,” says Ken Miars, Regional Director of Marketing and Sales.
In addition to access to AJ’s Fitness Center, Liberty Village of Pekin also offers a rehabilitation center for tenants conveniently located on the community’s campus. Liberty Village’s Bounce Back Rehabilitation Program sets the stage for successful outcomes during recovery from hospitalization, major illness, sudden injury, or trauma.
Bounce Back provides personalized treatment following a thorough evaluation of exactly which daily-living activities residents can do on their own. Next, an interdisciplinary team of professionals creates a treatment plan with specific and realistic goals designed to alleviate pain, restore function, improve mobility, and, most importantly, return tenants home to the Estates.
“Our Bounce Back Rehabilitation Program is definitely one of the perks of living at Liberty Village,” says Sandra. “Our tenants who participate in this program get well and then ‘bounce back’ to their active lifestyle here at Pekin Estates.”
